Track Session.

Kilboggert Track.

The amazing thing about the last few months is that I can do sessions again, consistently. The bain of my running for the last twenty years has been my achilles. I can get the mileage up to plus 70 km and then when that is stable, inevitably I try to introduce a bit of speed. It has always ended in disaster, until now. It will probably come, but while it doesn’t, happy days.

Another wonderful thing is the new track in Kilboggert Park. It is so cool that a synthetic track is there just available for anyone to use. The public times are generally 9:00-11:00, 1:00-2:00 and 6:00-7:00 but I just turn up and use it up to now. Currently it’s getting even better, they are constructing the bases to install flood-lighting.

What do I do on the track? I tend to keep the actual distance the same, 12 laps of the track which is 4.8 km. So either 12x400, 6x800, 4x1200, 3 x 1600 or 24x200. Then various recovery times between the fractions to enable all the fractions to be at the same pace. Simple, but hard since I do it all on my own.

Most of my lap times are close to 90 sec. Though recently I went for it, on my last 400m, and got close to 80sec. Both are a far cry from the 60-65 sec that are in my old training logs.

Generally I log all my runs as GPS tracks in Strava, but today can you believe I forgot my watch.
