With the sun sunning I checked my spikes to ensure previous event was well removed. All was well so I let them bathe in the spring sun to soak up a bit of energy :-).

Decided before hand that today I would relax into the race for the first half. Last time I just ran fast off from the start and died 2/3’s around. It funny that after I got to half I was busy thinking in my head as to when I would put in a burst of speed, I was pacing myself behind two guys. I couldn’t decide from all the options and with no control from myself I just took off. My subconscious obviously had a plan.

It all went well I flew through the lap and then had to hold on for the last half lap well clear of the next man, but to far from the guy ahead. Finished ahead of the first M60, finished ahead of Conor Nolan (M65, who came 6th in the national XC) by 30 sec. That would put me fighting for a medal. This retirement is looking good, just hope my achilles stays happy for the next while.
So being first M65 was nice. I love the fact that I pay €10 to enter and my prize is €10. So its a free run with tea and biscuits after.
