BHAA 6k road race St Anne’s park

Today’s race was around St Anne’s park. Got up a 7:00 am for breakfast with Jackie, her hairdresser was coming for an early appointment in the house. Went back to bed to relax. Got ready at nine, gear all packed and checked the route since it might be blocked with all the protests. The east link was fine, so set off at half nine. Parking was at St Pauls’s school, which allowed a few km warmup before the start.

A cold, bit breezy morning so it was full cover. Didn’t see anyone I recognised at the start, other than Lindie Naughton with her normal camera lens out.

me on the way to the finish

Kept things steady at the start and for the first lap. With the race being composed of two laps, I again decided with one to go to finally race and chase the few ahead. The fact that the guy behind had a heavy foot land was slightly annoying so I was glad that that disappeared as I increased the pace slightly. It took most of the lap to catch the runner ahead and then the next person looked catchable with 800 m to go. I was able to slowly get up to him and with a 200m left I pushed on, not wanting a sprint finish down the home straight. A time approaching 24 min appeared on the line ahead so that gave me extra encouragement to keep things going. It always enjoyable to do a bit of passing nearing the finish.

A few of the Blackrock AC runners appeared for a team photo for the newsletter, then it was a case of a warm down.
