Tummel Bridge Caravan Park

It was great to get a mid day flight to Edinburgh, no early start or late arrival today. It still seems strange to drive over the Firth of Forth Bridge without paying a toll, thanks to the SNP. Some shopping in our old local supermarket Asda in Perth, before heading on to Tummel Bridge.

Contours

Schiehallion was used in a groundbreaking scientific experiment conducted in 1774 to calculate the average density and thus the total mass of the Earth. By measuring the tiny gravitational attraction the mountain had on a pendulum, Nevil Maskelyne was able to “weigh” the world for the first time.

To calculate the mountain’s volume, a mathematician Charles Hutton used Maskelyne’s survey data to developed a new way to map terrain, inventing contour lines.

JK Sprint Perth

1 hr drive back to Perth on the Friday for the sprint.

the finish

No great run from any of us today, I finished 10th despite all the mistakes and one big “where am I!” moment. The rain came before my start so it was cold hanging around at the start and the course was a bit slippy. Clodagh came best of the Irish women in 14th, Aoife mispunched.
